March 20, 2008:  Joyce has knee surgery.  Winford writes that Joyce "...had her knee surgery yesterday and it went really well.  This was a partial replacement and she'll be coming home today.  Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers".

March 10, 2008: Advance Notice - April Get-together . The April Get-together will be held at the home of Jim and Shirley Anderson on April 12.  Natalie and Jim Keefe and Gene Gill have already committed to be there - hoping to see lots of classmates.  It's always a "fun-time" at the Anderson's.

March 8, 2008:  March Get-together . Attendance was down at the monthly Get-together because of the late snow.  (Everyone knows that Memphis closes down in a snow).  Susan Cave reports that 14 were present.  Joyce's photos have now been posted on the Get-together page.

March 7, 2008:  Bi-annual Class of 1946 Dinner.  All Techites are invited to the bi-annual Class of 1946 dinner!  The date is Thursday, April 3, 2008 at the Holiday Inn, 3700 Central, Memphis, TN at 6:30 PM.  Great buffet dinner - Cash Bar.  $18 Per Person, includes Tax & Tip.  Dance to the music of the JIM MAHANNAH band.  Everyone is invited but you MUST make a reservation.  Call Russell Willis at 901-272-2222 or email Sue Johnson at sue-lee-johnson@comcast.net.  Deadline for reservations is March 31, 2008.

March 5, 2008: Carl Kimberlin has Proton Treatment.  Carl has just returned from Mexico, where he had the Proton Treatment for Prostate Cancer.  This treatment has been used successfully for some time in many countries in Europe - just not available in the US at this time.  Carl is feeling well and "...is doing GREAT". 

March 1, 2008:  Sad News.  We are saddened to report that Tech Historian Rob Jolly's mother passed away February 29.  Click here for the obituary.  Our condolences to Rob and the Jolly family.

February 27, 2008:  GOOD NEWS Update Email from Jim Keefe.  " I met with the doctors today and they had good news.  The tumor has not grown and appears dormant.  The MRI shows no active growth, and that is the best news I could have gotten.  This thing is not cured, but it is in remission.  They have scheduled another MRI on  June 4th. as a follow up to see if anything is happening.

The medical oncologist will meet with me on March 5 to determine the Chemo dose as a preventative measure.  I'm told it will be the pill form, and I will take one a day for 5 consecutive days each month, for 3 months. 

I feel good, and the news today was an upper for both of us. 

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts, prayers, cards, calls, emails and wishes.  This has changed my outlook on life, and I'm more appreciative of my family, friends and look forward to being with as many of you as possible in the near future.  Love:  Jim Keefe"

February 12, 2008:  Update Email and photos from Jim Keefe.   Jim Keefe finished his Chemo and Radiation treatments in January.  Later that month, he and Natalie drove to Florida to escape some of the St. Louis winter.  Jim writes:  "We're in Anna Marie Island, Florida, and I've been steady in improvement.  My appetite is better, I've gotten some sunshine, did a swim in the pool, hit a few golf balls yesterday, and have been walking the beach.  I still get pretty tired in the evening, but am not sleeping much during the day like I was.  The prayers and wishes of you all have worked, and I'm thankful".  Click here to see photos of Jim and Natalie on the beaches.

February 10, 2008:  February Get-together Photos. Winford and Joyce report that 25 were present at last night's monthly get-together dinner.  Joyce's photos have now been posted on the Get-together section.

February 10, 2008:  Classmates ailing and in need of your prayers.  Carl and Ann Kimberlin meet with doctors in Jacksonville FL tomorrow.  They plan to return for Carl's 8 weeks of Proton Treatment for prostate cancer.  Doctors have found a spot on Bobby Newman's pancreas which is delaying his treatment for prostate cancer.  Bill Nethery had bypass surgery recently and is now recuperating.  Your prayers are needed.

February 5, 2008:  Sad News.    We have been looking for our classmate Mary Elizabeth Vowell Voss for a long time.  Sadly, we have just learned that she passed away June 9, 2002 in Memphis.

January 27, 2008:  Sad News.  We've just learned of the death of Harry Riggins' 86 year old sister Norma Riggins James on January 22th.  Services were Saturday.  Our condolences to the Riggins and James families.

Keys to the City of Lexington by Mayor Bobby Dyer. This was followed with the

December 16, 2007:  Jim Keefe's new look.  Jim Keefe writes that his hair has begun to fall out from the radiation and chemo treatments, and he had his barber cut it to a stubble.  He's sent us photos of his "new Look" and you can see them on the Spec Occasion section of the website.  (With or without hair, you look good, Jim).

December 11, 2007:   Faye MacDonald Crawford T'50.  Joyce sends email that Faye has learned she has cancer and will have additional tests this week to learn more.  Please add Faye to your prayer list.

December 9, 2007:  Christmas Party Photos.  There were 60 classmates and friends present at last night's Christmas Party at the Kimberlins.  Joyce's photos have now been posted on the Get-together section of the website.

December 8, 2007:  Message from Jim Keefe.  Please check the Message Board for a message from Jim Keefe, who has begun his treatments of radiation and chemo.

November 20, 2007:  Jim Keefe ailing.  Jim Keefe had brain surgery November 13 to remove a tumor and will begin radiation and chemo therapy next week.  Jim reports that he is feeling good and "..Everyone has been great and I'm feeling a little guilty with all the attention".  Your cards and prayers for Jim and Natalie will be appreciated.

November 8, 2007:  Sad News.  Sue reports that Melba Cowell Moxley's (Tech 1950) daughter, Annette Moxley Scott died yesterday morning.  Visitation will be tonight from 5-8 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home.  Our condolences to Tom and Melba and the Moxley family.

November 3, 2007:  Last Night's Get-together.  Joyce reports that there were 42 present at the Get-together at Jim Hood's home in Olive Branch.  Joyce's photos have now been posted on the Get-together section of the website.

November 1, 2007:  Web Site 6th Anniversary.  Today, the Class of 1951's website is 6 years old and has had almost 50,000 visitors (49,918).  Happy Anniversary to us!

October 13, 2007:  Classmates need your prayers.  Joyce reports on two of our classmates:  Carl Kimberlin's prostate biopsy was malignant.  He will be going to the doctor next week to discuss his options.  Doris Fleming Bramucci has been in the hospital with congestive heart failure.  She is home now and on medication.  Please remember Carl and Doris in your prayers.

October 13, 2007:  Advance notice about the NOVEMBER Get-together.  Jim Hood will host the November Get-together at his Olive Branch home on FRIDAY, November 2, at 5 PM.  Connie will be getting out a notice soon.  Jim is still in the discovery stage of how much brighter the world is after his recent successful cataract surgery.  He'll have surgery on the second eye in two weeks.

October 3, 2007:  Classmates visit Ann Dendy Biggs.  Jim-Shirley Anderson and Joyce-Winford Baker visited Glenn and Ann Dendy Biggs at their San Antonio ranch this past weekend.  They all said it was a fabulous visit with the perfect hosts.  Joyce has shared some photos with this website and they have been posted on the SPEC OCCASION section.

September 20, 2007:  Friend needs your prayers.  Jim Hood has asked us to add this request for your prayers:  Jim, Jesse and Glenn have a lifelong friend named Ben Brewer.  He went into the hospital with the problem of a slow heart beat, but while he was there they discovered he had a tumor on one of his kidney's the size of a baseball.  Surgery is scheduled next week to remove his kidney.  Jim tells a funny story about Ben starting high school at Central.  Then he decided he wanted to come to Tech to be with his friends.  He came and stayed ONE DAY and went back to Central.  What happened was he was in Ma Campbell's class and that was the day that Phil Epps went out the window.  Ben immediately decided he should go back to Central.  Please remember him in your prayers.

September 20, 2007:  Sad News.  Glenn Lockhart writes that he has learned that Horace (Sonny) Clark died September 18.  Sonny was married to classmate Lynn Nicholas, who died in 1978.  Our condolences to the Clark family.

September 15, 2007:  Class of 1946 twice-yearly dinner.  Last night was the Class of 1946's twice-yearly dinner.  Bill and Sue Lee Johnson attended and said there were almost 100 there.  Sue took photos and they have been posted on the Tech Alumni Website under Class of 1946...New Photos.  Click here to go directly to the photo page.

September 5, 2007:  Sad News.  Shirley Anderson's sister, Martha Madeline Cella, died yesterday morning after a long battle with cancer.  Shirley had been staying with  her at the hospice for the last few weeks.  The funeral will be Thursday at 11 AM with Visitation one hour earlier.  Our condolences to Shirley and the Cella and Anderson families.  Click here for the obituary.

September 1, 2007:  Medical Updates.  Glenn Lockhart writes that Jesse Pearson and Glenda Beane went home Thursday and  must take it easy for awhile.  Jim Hood went home Friday and seems to be doing well.  Carl Kimberlin's medical visit was put on hold until next month.  Bob Boone writes that Nora had the 2nd spinal surgery and the surgeon was able to remove the portion of the disc that was against the nerve and he expected that the pain would be eliminated.  Later that night Nora reported that the extreme leg pain is no longer there.e

August 29, 2007:  Medical Update.  Glenn Lockhart writes that Jesse Pearson is doing fine and hopes to go home in a couple of days.  Glenda Beene's tumor was not malignant, she's doing fine and hopes to go home tomorrow.  We'll let you know when we have more information.

August 24, 2007:  Sad News.  Bobby Crenshaw's wife Katherine died this morning.  She had cancer and was not doing well at all last week when Connie talked to Bobby. Visitation will be 3-5 Sunday and the funeral will be at 2 on Monday at Memorial Park on Poplar.  Our condolences to Bobby.  Click here for the obituary.

August 24, 2007:  Classmates ailing.  Jesse Pearson checks into Baptist East Tuesday morning at 8 for surgery and Glenda Beene is going to Germantown Methodist at 1 the same day to have a tumor removed.  Jim Hood checks into the hospital Thursday and Carl Kimberlin will check in on the same day.  We need a lot of prayers for these Techites.

August 12, 2007:  Last Night's Get-together.  Sue reports that there were 29 present at last night's get-together.  Joyce's photos should come thru later today and will be posted on the Get-together section of the web site as soon as possible.

July 26, 2007:  New Special Occasion:   Jim and Natalie Keefe and the Hollingsworth twins ,Joan and Jean (Tech 1953) and their husbands have met once a year at various locations to catch up on the year's activities and enjoy an outing together.  This year they met at the Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield, Illinois.  Jim's photos are posted on the Special Occasion section of the website.

July 25, 2007:  Email from Faye Berryhill McCracken   Faye writes:  "We finally got the house on the market. June 29, 2007:  Sad News.  Roberta called with the sad news that Jim Hood's wife Betty died this morning of a brain aneurysm.  After cremation, there will be a memorial service this Monday, July 2, 10 AM at Bartlett United Methodist Church, 5676 Stage Road, Bartlett.  Our sympathies go out to Jim and the Hood family.  Click here for the obituary.

June 17, 2007:  June Fish Fry.  The 44 classmates and friends who attended the "June Fish Fry" at the Kimberlin's had a great time.  Joyce's photos have now been posted on the Get-together section.

June 12, 2007:  Tech Alumni Web Site.  The new Tech Alumni Web Site is now complete.  On the site you'll find the Senior Yearbook photos posted for EVERY GRADUATING CLASS from 1922 to 1987.  Looking through some of the earlier years is so interesting even if you don't know these folks.  And the site will be a GREAT place for grand kids to see what their grandparents looked like in high school.   If anyone searches for "memphis tech high" or "memphis tech alumni", the website will come up #1 or #2.  Be sure to visit often:  http://memphistechhigh.com

June 9, 2007:  Sad News.  We've been notified that the brother of Florine Jordan Cochran (Bill Jordan, T'47) passed away June 7.  Our condolences to Florine and the Jordan family.

May 21, 2007:  Lela Smith.    Sara Barrett Cave writes that Lela Smith died this morning.  John and Lela Smith are good friends of Alex and Dottie McCollum and frequently attended our get-togethers.  John Smith is also in Sara's Sunday School Class.  Our condolences to the Smith family.

May 5, 2007:  Sad News.    We've just been notified that our classmate Mary Nell Cain Upshaw lost her long battle with cancer and passed away this morning.  Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM May 8 and Services will be at 2 PM May 9 - both at Memphis Funeral Home, Germantown Parkway Chapel.  Our condolences to the Upshaw family.  Click here for the obituary.

April 29, 2007:  Class of 1950 Reunion.  Sue Lee Johnson reports that the 1950 57th Reunion was very successful with about 90 attending each night.  Last night she noted that Tom Sams had finally convinced Bill Trotter to attend.  Bill had never attended any reunions and was never interested but once he checked in, he had a great time.  (Moral:  Don't give up on our "not interested" members).  We will have a page of photos on the Reunion soon and Nancy Tucker Douglass says she'll add photos to the Class of 1950 website soon.

April 27, 2007:  New Tech Alumni Website.  The various Tech Classes which were recently added to our website now have their very own domain name:  memphistechhigh.com .  All these classes' web pages have been moved to this new address.  It is hoped that eventually every single Tech class will be fully represented on this new alumni website.  Please visit.  Suggestions and recommendations are welcome.  http://memphistechhigh.com

April 24, 2007:  More Sad News.  Our friend Allie Robards (T'50) died, at home, this morning around 10 AM.  A memorial service will be held at Faith Baptist Church on N. Germantown Rd. April 20, 2007:  Sad News about T'50 Friend.  Bennie Moore Campbell writes that "Tom ran into Joy Robards today and she said that Allie has only 3 to 7 days to live.  He is at home and I know Joy would appreciate hearing from Allie's many friends and appreciate your prayers".

March 28, 2007:  News about Allie Robards.  Rex King has sent email that "Allie Robards is out of the critical condition. They have helped him over his Pneumonia and he sounds like his old self.  If all continues to go well, he will go home a week from Friday. He is at the Baptist hospital, his phone (901) 226-5394  Continue your Prayers, he appreciates the concern".

March 26, 2007:  Sad News.  We've just learned that our friend Bill Davis passed away at 3 PM, Sunday March 25.  Visitation will be March 29,  6-8 PM, at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave.  Funeral at the funeral home at 2 PM Friday, March 30th.  Click here for the complete obituary. 

And the daughter of our classmate Glenn Glisson has informed us that Glenn passed away January 7, 2007.   Our condolences to the Davis and Glisson families.

March 4, 2007:  Message from Ruth Ann Koleas.  Ruth Ann left a very nice note on the Message Board.  Generally we don't repeat them in the NEWS section, but this is an exception:  "Thanks to all of you for your many expressions of love and concern shown to me during Bob's illness and his death.  Bob always enjoyed the fellowship and friendship of his Tech Hi group and looked forward to the dinners, parties, and reunions.  It is amazing how you all have kept together for so many years.  I appreciate how all of you included me in this circle of friends even though I was one of those "Central Hi" alums. I want to especially thank Harry Riggins for passing on the information about Bob, and to all of you who were able to be at the visitation and funeral.  Bob was indeed a special person and the love of my life.  Thank you again for all of your many kindnesses".  RuKoleas@aol.com

February 26, 2007: 
Email from Joyce Sides Baker.   Joyce writes, "Winford has been having some problems when he exercises so he went to his heart doctor Monday and back for a cath Wednesday and that showed some rapid heartbeats so they kept him to put in a pace maker - defibrillator on Thursday.  We came home late Friday and he is doing pretty well.  We thought he would probably get another stent and come home after one night's stay but it was more complicated than we thought.  We would like the prayers of all that he will heal and get back to normal.  His left ventricle has deteriorated and they are giving him another medicine and we hope that will help.  He has had by-pass surgery twice, 5 in 81 and 4 in 85, and stents twice in the last few years".

February 20, 2007:  Email from Harry Riggins.   Harry writes that "We visited Ruth Ann Koleas this morning and Bob Koleas is in Step Down Care at Baptist Hospital Collierville.  He is seriously ill with pneumonia but they are running all sorts of tests for other diagnosis".

February 11, 2007:  Last Night's Get-together.  Joyce reports that 25 were present at the February Get-together.  Her photos are now posted on the Get-together section of the website.

February 7, 2007:  Sunday Brunch at the Peabody Skyway is well worth a visit. The food displays are luscious and enticing. Salads, pastas, freshly-baked breads, croissants, pastries, mountains of jumbo shrimp, crab, smoked salmon, and saddles of lamb, beef and ham are just some of the delights. Desserts are decadent and deliberately so. Voted the best brunch in Memphis.  A group of classmates attending the April Get-together at the Anderson's will continue their reunion at the Peabody Brunch on April 15th.  Let Jim Anderson know if you'd also like to attend.

February 5, 2007:  Comcast's purchase of Roadrunner.  Comcast's recent purchase of Roadrunner has effected quite a few of our classmate's email addresses.  Be sure and continue to check the Directory Update Page for the recent changes.

February 2, 2007:  Tornado in Central Florida.  The deadly tornado that ripped through central Florida today was only a mile and a half from the home of Jim and Joan Dickson.  They are both fine and suffered no real damage other than a power outage.  Jim looks forward to picking up Pat Herrin Sprague and driving to Memphis for the April Get-together at the Anderson's.  Bob Boone writes that the tornado was 8 miles east of his home and that he and Nora are safe and only experienced heavy wind and rain.  They hope to be able to attend the get-together at the Anderson's also.

December 10, 2006:  We have found another classmate.  TRUE STORY:  Bill Johnson has breakfast every day at this local restaurant.  The same people are always there and they've become acquainted.  Bill's been talking with this woman for two years now without realizing she was one of our lost ones.  They finally realized they both went to Tech and were in the same class.  Bill asked why she never came to any of our functions and she said she never received anything and didn't know about them.  BINGO!  We now happily remove Joan Simpson Pennington's name from our Missing List.

November 1, 2006: 
Sue Lee Johnson.  Some of you know that Sue has really been sick since the pace-maker was put in.  First her blood-pressure medicine was way off and they had to adjust the pace maker.  Then they found fluid around her heart.  During several very painful days in the hospital they drained the fluid.  She is home now, but is still very weak, and must have complete rest for three weeks.  She has faith that God has brought her this far and that He will take care of her.  She asks all of you to please pray for her.

November 1, 2006:  Email from Bob Boone.  "Nora had successful back surgery this morning.  She has some pain at the incision but the sharp pain down her right leg is GONE.  She is supposed to be released from the hospital on Friday".

October 13, 2006:  Bill Johnson.  Bill fell Monday night (9th) and fractured his hip.  He spent 3 nights in the hospital.  Instead of surgery the doctors elected to go with therapy and spent two days working with Bill on a walker.  He's home now with his walker and can maneuver fairly well.  We hope bill will mend real soon and be back to his regular post at the 3 Little Pigs.

October 12, 2006:  Fall Tour of New England Norma and Rex King have just returned from a Fall Foliage Tour of New England.  Rex sent us some of their photos and they're posted on the Spec.Occasion section of the website.  Thanks Rex.

October 5, 2006:  Bill Davis Bill Davis T'52 has suffered a slight heart attack but should be released from the Baptist East Hospital very soon.

September 27, 2006:  Shirley Anderson Jim Anderson has let us know that during a physical, Shirley's EKG showed some irregularities so she had a stress test, echo cardiogram and a cath. this morning.  They put a stent in one of her arteries and she is doing just fine so far and will stay in the hospital overnight.  Remember Shirley and Jim in your prayers. 

September 26, 2006:  Ray Rutledge.  Joyce and Glenn have notified us that Ray Rutledge, the widower of classmate Nancy Rook died at his home on September 22, with burial on September 25th.  Nancy, who was an important part of our earlier reunions, died in 1995.  Ray had continued to participate until the last few years.  Our condolences to the Rutledge family.

September 8, 2006:  Sad News.  Ed Young, Tech 1950, died today after complications associated with diabetes.  Visitation will be September 9 at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar from 5 - 8 PM.  The funeral will be at 2 PM on Sunday September 10.  Our sincere condolences to Pat and the Young family.  Click here for the obituary.
