Betty Jane Hefner
 

BETTE JANE "BJ" HEFNER, 80, of Memphis, knocked open the gates of Heaven November 13, 2008.  She was a charter member of Holy Trinity United Church of Christ. BJ was a tireless activist, leader, and mentor for the GLBT community. She was one of the first sisters of Aphrodite Memphis and a member of many other organizations. In her earlier years she loved to coach and play softball. Whether you knew her 70 years or 70 days, she made a lasting impression on every person that met her. She was preceded in death by a sister, Waity Marie Hopper, a brother, Jim Hefner and a great-niece Amber Marie Vego. She is survived by brothers, Tom and Jack Hefner, niece Megan Hefner, nephews Oscar Vego, John (Alicia) Vego, Tom (Brandy) Hefner and a host of other nieces and nephews. Please join her family and friends in a celebration of her extraordinary life, day, November 16 , 2008 at 6 p.m., time at Holy Trinity United Church. A special thanks to the nurses and staff in the Hospice Unit at Baptist East, you all are a blessing.
